Schmieding Kids First Clinic History

The UAMS Kids First success story in Northwest Arkansas began with the interest of the local Schmieding Foundation in providing a program of meaningful services for children and families in that area.

Within a year, the Schmieding Foundation provided a new building for the Diagnostic Clinic and built the present UAMS Kids First clinic.  The Schmieding Foundation continues to actively support the clinic and its goals.

Now, Schmieding Kids First has a new location in Lowell where they share a beautiful new building with physicians from UAMS and Arkansas Children’s Hospital. Pediatric specialists in many fields will commute to the Lowell center on a rotating basis. In their current location, Schmieding Kids First can serve approximately 60 children and employs more than 40 staff and contractors.
Starting with their first enrollment, Schmieding Kids First has served children with challenging medical and developmental conditions and has earned respect for the excellent progress made by these children.  They will now have the capability of expanding those services to even more children.

Schmieding Kids First works in cooperation with local, area and state colleges to provide observation and training to nursing, early childhood, special education, therapy, and social work students.
